Melbourne Junior Tennis Pathways Series

The Melbourne Junior Tennis Pathway Series (MJTPS) has been set up for players to have regular tournament competition with a focus on helping players prepare for Tennis Australia Junior Tour Tournaments (JT).

The 20 event series is split up into the 4 Grand Slam Series with each series consisting of five tournaments (four Round Robin and one Elimination).

The Tournament Series have 4 age groups: 9&U (Green ball), 11&U, 13&U and 15&U (Yellow Ball).

Boys play boys and girls against girls that give the ideal tennis match experience.

Entry for each event is $30 or a season pass can be purchased for the 10 tournaments for $250. Please note: Season Passes are exclusive to each venue.

How does it work?

Tournaments will be played on a Saturday afternoon and consist of 20 tournaments broken into four series:

  • Australian Series: 4 Round Robin and one Elimination Tournament
  • French Series: 4 Round Robin and one Elimination Tournament
  • Wimbledon Series: 4 Round Robin and one Elimination Tournament
  • S Series: 4 Round Robin and one Elimination Tournament

Each tournament will consist of eight events over four age levels:

  • U/9 singles Boys and Girls Singles (Green Ball)
  • U/11 singles Boys and Girls Singles (Yellow Ball)
  • U/13 singles Boys and Girls Singles (Yellow Ball)
  • U/15 singles Boys and Girls Singles (Yellow Ball)

Tournaments will be played every two weeks, alternatively at Melbourne Park and Hume Tennis and Community Centre. (Full schedule below)

MJTPS will mean:

  • Players will play multiple matches at each tournament
  • Players will play in their own age groups,
  • Players will play against their own sex
  • Players will play over a designated time period
  • Players will experience both multi match (Round Robin) and Elimination Tournament play
  • Players will learn about the Tennis Australia tournament pathway

 

What makes MJTPS so unique:

  • Play in as many tournaments as you like
  • Each tournament is independent to itself –
  • Points are only used to decide seedings in Series Final events
  • The tournament series offers players the opportunity to play against their own sex in their own age group
  • Players will play at least three singles matches in each Round Robin Series
  • Players will experience the feeling of playing elimination tournament in the Series Finals
  • Tournaments will be run by Tennis Australia recognised Tournament Directors
  • The series is a pathway to prepare players for National Junior Tour Ranking Tournaments
  • Parents and players will learn how to navigate the Tennis Australia tournament website
  • Parents and players will learn how to search and enter for tournaments on the Tennis Australia Tournaments web page
  • Parents will meet other parents of junior players
  • Players will win ‘Ultimate Tennis Experiences’ prizes, ie: Australian Open accreditation, Australian Open Tour during Australian Open
  • Tournament series does not clash with association competition – played on a Saturday afternoon and offers an alternative to morning competitions

 

With players competing in round robin and knockout tournaments – players will experience both styles of tournament play that is a key to prepare for National Junior Tour Points Tournaments.

IMPORTANT and REMEMBER: Tournament entry require a player to have a Tennis Australia ID Number – this ID number can be obtained by calling 1300 PLAY TENNIS.
